Kev ready with the net as the sun rises over the far bank
Kev Hewitt has been back to Linear Fisheries Manor Farm and in spite of grim conditions, managed a few bites.
‘Conditions were tough this week with a cold northerly wind making it feel like late autumn rather than late spring. However I headed down to Manor Farm on the Linear complex for a two night session.
I have really got my heart set on catching Kempy’s Linear this Spring and as I write it still has not made an appearance since September. With that in mind I thought I would give it a go despite the lake not producing many fish since the northerly winds. I arrived first thing in the morning and the lake was quite busy.

The road bank was the only place to produce bites but that was taken so I dropped into the river bank as it is normally good for a bite or two. I knew the fishing was going to be tough so I found an area of light weed at 95 yards range and spombed 10 spombs of bait as tight as possible onto the area. I fished three ronnie rigs over the top, size 6 Cryogen Curve-Shanx with a 10 inch Tungsten Loaded hooklength. I attached a slow sinking Northern Special hookbait which sat nicely on top of the weed.
The fishing was slow but I did manage to catch a 24lb common the first night followed by a 24lb mirror the following morning. I ended the session with an 18lb mirror during the second night. It was a tough session but putting in minimal bait with accuracy and sitting on my hands patiently was to key to producing a few bites. Once I had put 10 spombs in and got three rods on the bait, it was just a case of sitting back and being patient. With no disturbance, the bites eventually came’.
