Stalking Approach Saves A Blank For Rob

With the sun finally putting in an appearance and the water temperatures starting the climb the carp have inevitably been spending their time basking on the surface over the last few days. Rob Shanks took full advantage and reverted to stalking tactics to bag a couple of lovely looking 20s from a local syndicate water. At this time of year when things are warming up it really does pay to pack the stalking gear!

Rob Shanks took full advantage and reverted to stalking tactics to bag a couple of lovely looking 20s from a local syndicate water

“With the wife and kids away for the weekend I decided to get in a rare 48hrs session on my Norfolk syndicate water.

I’d baited a swim a few days previous and on arrival it was clear the fish were in the area but what looked like an odds on bumper session turned into a bit of a head banger. The fish were clearly content feeding hard on natural and enjoying some well required sun on their backs.

I managed to turn what looked a certain blank into two nice twenties on the bank using simple stalking tactics. Both fish were caught using simple free lined tactics in the shallow margins. One from the surface where I fed chum mixers glugged in Krill liquid and used cut down Sticky baits krill pop up as a hookbait which went 23.08. The second fish, at 25.04 was caught by being ultra stealthy and simply lowering a free lined Sticky baits boilie in amongst some feeding fish found in the margins of a quiet corner of the lake. I was over the moon as making the effort to try something different on this occasion really paid off.

Tackle used on this occasion was Drennan Supplex in 10lb and an ESP Big-T in size 10.”
