Ross Bancroft enjoyed a excellent result earlier this morning, in the shape of Smiley, a proper old warrior from a highly pressured Berkshire club lake. It tipped the scales round to 40lb 2oz and was taken in the early hours of a ‘cheeky overnighter’.
Ross takes up the story: ‘I had been baiting an unfancied plot for a couple of weeks with Obsession Baits Stench fish mix, popping down after work most days to keep the spots dusted off with a generous sprinkling of boiled food.
Last night was my first time of fishing it and after deploying three hinged stiff rigs to the zone, I caught a small stocky shortly after midnight. Then the big girl came around 4am. I am completely made up as it was the last of the ‘big four’ I wanted to catch’ said the emotional captor.
Tackle comprised Cryogen Stiff Rigger size 5 tied to 25lb bristle filament to a boom of semi-stiff Tungsten Loaded and a leader of the new ESP Choddy silt leadcore.
