Rig Change Keeps The Bites Coming For Rob

Rob Shank’s short over nighters have been producing the bites through June, and a change of presentation has been helped deter the nuisance species.

‘June has been a fairly productive month although it started off slowly. The water I’m fishing is absolutely rammed full of Roach and as the weather has warmed they have caused havoc with presentations.

To get around it I wanted to swap over from my usual striptease presentation to a stiffer option. Sticking to my ever faithful ESP Raptor Long Shanx size seven hook, but coupled up with some ESP Ghost in 18lb, the problems have been dramatically reduced.

Fishing mainly short 10 hour overnight sessions I managed some cracking fish. Commons of 29.08, 25.04, 22.00 and mirrors of 27.08, 25.08, 25.02 & 22.10′.

ESP Raptor Long-Shanx have a 15 degree downturned eye and a point which is slightly inturned toward the shank. These features help with both hooking and holding and improve general hook strength by reducing any tendency to gape. Click here for more information.
