You can’t keep a good man down and David Meek had a nice little result at the weekend after going through a bit of a lean spell – well done Meeky!
‘Well I have had a bit of a drought of late. Apart from an ‘easy’ one from a foreign trip I hadn’t caught anything from the ‘Fun Park’ since a big one from January. Not for want of trying!
I arrived early for the bank holiday weekend. I had a plan, and despite an anxiety ridden journey on the way down. I was surprised to see most of the lake to be free. I quick walk o the area I had in mind, and I was greeted with a couple of flops, and shows from the excitable carp (or is that carps?) I sat there for a while and then dropped a bucket to claim the swim, then headed back to the motor to gather my tackle.
Two rods were fished to a gravel seam at 60 ish yards, the other to a softer silty area at the same distance. On the gravel seam two D rigs tied using the Tungsten Loaded in black, size 6 Grippers finished off the balanced maize set up. The silty rod, the chosen rig was a hinge rig (traditional Style). 7 spombs of maize, maples and smattering of hemp laid over the two gravel rigs. And 30 baits were scattered around the silty rig. Happy my work was done I settled for the evening.
At about 10 the next morning one of the gravel rods was away and after a testosterone fuelled scrap a low twenty male was lying in the net. As rough as a dinner lady from the Beano, it was clear that maybe these fish will be spawning soon. Nothing happened the remainder of the trip. But I was more than happy with the little reward I got’.
