With the sun shining and the weather warming up it was time to get the floaters out for the first time this year. I headed down to Kingsmead for a short afternoon session and even though the carp were a little lethargic, I managed to get the odd one interested in my free offerings.
A short time later and I was connected to this lovely hard fighting mirror of 29lb 8oz. A Duo floater hookbait from CC Moore was hair rigged on a size 10 ESP Classic hook to a 12lb Zig & Floater mono hooklink. It is a good job I was using strong tackle as the fish found sanctuary in freshly sprung weedbeds on a number of occasions and I had to put some pressure on to coax the fish out. Hopefully the first of many carp caught off the top this summer.
