Jo’s Spain Trip

Jo Green escaped the English weather recently with a carp filled trip to Sierra Brava, Spain with her partner Mike Whitford. The weather wasn’t great there either but despite stormy conditions they caught a few!

Jo Green escaped the English weather recently with a carp filled trip to Sierra Brava, Spain with her partner Mike Whitford.

The weather was spot on for fishing when we arrived, big south westerly winds and slightly overcast. We started marking out the areas to fish to, ranging from 30 yards up to 80 yards and spombed out some particle mix on the areas and began to set up the tackle.

The mainline used was ESP Crystal mono 18lb attached to leadcore leaders. The rigs were simple anti eject set ups with Raptor T6 size 4 hooks, with a small ESP PVA mesh bag of 3 boilies.

The first 24 hours were quite hectic with 10 carp in total including my unusual but stunning mirror. The following evening the weather took a turn for the worst, it started to rain heavily and the wind picked up which in turn slowed the fishing right down with only two more carp coming in 36 hours.

On the Thursday morning we decided to move over to another part of the lake whilst there was a short break in the rain storms, no sooner had we set up camp the wind and rain came back with a vengeance. This storm managed to completely destroy camp, anything we couldn’t hang onto just got picked up and taken by the wind.

It was absolute mayhem for a while and one experience I have no wish to repeat. Absolute carnage. The water temperature had plummeted with all the rain and cold water coming into the lake and the water had risen considerably as a result, this really didn’t help the fishing at all. We managed to get another 2 carp making the final tally 14 carp including two lovely mirrors.
