We received this report from Jo Green, who with partner Mike Whitford, spent an amazing time on Lac Bin el Ouidane in Morocco, pulling out carp to over 60lbs. Good angling!
The sun was shining and it was a beautiful warm day when we arrived at the lake. We sat and had a chat with the Moroccan carpfishing team and decided to start on the point opposite the Island of Gerrard, so off we all went in the big boat out to the point, Mike and I got dropped off and started to sort out our tackle, then off we went in the dingy and started to locate the areas and depth generally between 6 and 12 metres with the fishfinder, then placed the markers. We returned to the swim to start setting the traps. The mainline was ESP 18lb Crystal Mono, ESP leadcore leadclip leaders and Raptor T6 hooks presented as an anti-eject rig. We also used ESP PVA bags perforated multi, 32mm PVA mesh and ESP artificial buoyant sweetcorn
The fish started to come at a steady pace on average 3 every 24 hours, then on day eight smaller fish started to move in, so we decided we would give it another couple of days here and then move sunday. Sunday came and we were on the move, three quarters of a mile across the lake to the island of Arabou. A lovely island with no animals or people when we arrived.
So off we went in the dinghy to mark out the desired areas again, we returned to the swim to set the traps and after a couple of hours the fish started coming and it soon became apparent we had found some bigger fish again.
The catches continued at a steady pace at times a little hectic with us both having a fish on at the same time. On thursday morning we went for a wander around the island to see why the ferry had stopped off the previous evening, turns out we were no longer on our own, two donkeys had been dropped off, bizaare. I now had two pets to feed for our last five days!
We got the rods back out and started fishing again, by now wind had got up and the fishing slowed down with just one fish in 24 hours, the wind continued for the next two days and once again the fishing was slow with just two more fish in 48 hours.
The next day the wind dropped and we started to catch consistantly again, I don’t know why, but it appears the carp did,nt like the wind, strange really as with the back to back sunshine we had, you would think they would prefer some wind on the water. It was an epic trip and I cannot wait to go back. I had 27 carp in total. Mike also had 27 including a 61lb,13 mirror.

Got something you want to share with us? Send us your catch report!
This year we would like to invite you to share with us your catch reports and photos of carp caught with the help of ESP tackle. We’ll aim to feature as many as possible on the Facebook page and ESP website news page.
All we need is a good quality photo (maximum size of 1mb), a brief catch report (what, where, and how) and we’ll do the rest. Send it to catchreports@esp-carpgear.com.
