E-S-P is delighted to announce the return of iconic carp angler Terry Hearn as its leading consultant.
Terry first joined the company way back in 1997, shortly after catching the legendary Mary from Wraysbury at a then British record weight of 55lb 13oz. Over the previous few years Terry had caught most of the big fish from the highly pressured Yateley complex and was quickly making a name for himself as an exceptionally talented angler at a relatively young age.
The initial ESP range was launched in early 1999 to great acclaim and Terry was heavily involved in its development, especially testing the Raptor hook range which set a new standard in carp hooks due to their improved technical qualities, exceptional sharpness and strength. Following on there was the original Stiff Rig system, the first range of products dedicated to creating the hinged stiff rig which set the standard and evolved to become used for the peerless chod rig. The carp rods that bear his name have gone onto become regarded as absolute classics.
Over the proceeding years Terry had of course gone on to catch so many meritoriously big fish from all sorts of waters, from intimate, highly pressured circuit venues to huge, wild under stocked pits.
His ability to target and catch big, individual carp, often in very quick time highlights an innate sense of watercraft – perhaps even extra sensory perception?! Also Terry’s analytical eye for technical detail means that he only uses tackle that he has complete confidence in – and it is no great coincidence that most of Terry’s big fish over the last 15 years have been caught using tackle from the ESP range, even though he has never been under any obligation to use only ESP tackle. Anything he does use is therefore by choice.
Behind the scenes at ESP there are some very exciting developments under way. Terry will once again be involved in their design from concept to manufacture, in testing and tweaking in the ultimate aim for perfection.
On his return Terry said: “I’m really pleased to be back with ESP, which is where it all started for me way back in 1997. Over the fourteen years that I spent working with ESP I built up a great deal of faith and confidence in their products, particularly legendary items such as the rods, Stiff Rigger hooks, Bristle Filament and the original Leadcore, tackle which undoubtedly helped myself and carp anglers worldwide to catch the fish of their dreams.
I’m looking forward to working with ESP again, and I’ve already got a few ideas for new products floating around in my head… exciting times ahead!“
