Things have carried on very nicely of late and as always “mental May” has been a great time to be out on the bank. I’ve managed to get four nights fishing in since the brace of mid 30’s and had three more fish from my syndicate.
The fish are getting in the margins a lot more now and my first one was a very long mirror of 33lb 10oz caught just off a reed bed after seeing some fizzing there. A krill pop up over 50 baits did the trick. My next trip I did a 24 hour blank but things got back on track this week when I landed my first 40 of the year.
I got down for a two nighter and as it was quite busy went for a good look about. I was surprised to find a group of fish close in where I’d never seen them before so thought I’d have a go at stalking for them before I set up for the night . Two hours later I couldn’t believe it as the single hook bait I’d lowered into the margin had been taken by a cracking 41lb 2oz mirror!
The fish put up a great fight and the swim was totally devoid of carp when I finally landed it so I moved to a different swim and the next morning was rewarded with a mint 29lb 10oz common to finish the trip nicely. My usual tactics of either a krill pop up or wafter (depending on bottom) on an ESP ready made size 5 chod to 5″ of Tungsten Loaded, lead clip and tubing and 15lb Syncro XT being my end tackle.
