It just goes to show pre-baiting can really pay off even in the depths of winter. Bristol angler Mark Drake had been targeting a South West still water and baiting a reedy margin in a small bay consistently for four weeks before fishing it.
Mark waited until the conditions were ideal and on his first trip to fish the pre-baited spot he caught the lake’s biggest mirror at 39lb 14oz! The long, big framed fish put up an epic battle before Mark managed to slip the net under it and realized it was the one he wanted. Tackle used included ESP Sinklink, size 6 Curve-Shanx and 18lb Crystal mono leaders over a bed of Perfection Groundbait’s choc orange nut boilies.
This fish completed the ‘double’ for Mark after he caught the lakes biggest resident, a huge common of 48.08 last year. Job done!
