Sean Leverett’s persisitent hard work so far this year paid off in fine style last week on Stoneaces at the Linch Hill complex. Here’s his full story:
I started off my session in a swim known as Left Gravelly as I’d seen a few fish show out in front of there but after a couple of nights I felt I needed to have a move as it appeared that the fish had moved.
I knew that there was a fresh South Westerly due to arrive on the Wednesday night and I had a feeling that the swim where I had previously taken 4 fish from could be a good shout. I decided to go in there and put one rod out by the island and then look about for a couple of other spots.
After finding a couple of small silty areas I baited all three spots with around a kilo of Sticky’s Krill in mixed 16 and 20mm and then once I’d done this I lowered multi rigs on the spots with a matching krill pop-up on. The rigs were constructed using the new prototype ESP Tungsten Hooklink material in 25lb that is being tested together with the new prototype Stiff Rigger in size 5. The multi was attached to an Ejector Lead clip set up with a 5oz square pear lead.
The afternoon saw very little activity but just on dark I saw a few fish show on me and around me.
The following morning I had a take just on first light that I had to take to the boat for. After a 20 minute fight I eventually landed what looked a decent fish.
Once back on dry land I took a better look at the fish and recognised it as one that should be called Baby Choco due to its similarities. At 37lb 4oz I was very happy as this was my largest from Stoneacres to date. A few pictures and she was returned to her home.
Later that morning, just before 12 noon I had a take on the other open water rod which resulted in a 26lb 14oz linear.
Nothing more happened that afternoon or evening but just after 4am the following morning I had an absolute belting take! I took to the boat immediately and headed out to where it had weeded me. After getting the fish out from the weed bed things got interesting in fact what happened next was a 40 minute boat fight where I was unable to keep control. Eventually I managed to gain some control as the fish tired and on my second attempt I netted what was a really good Linear.
As I started to head back to shore I soon realised I was actually some 350yds away from the swim and I’d actually been towed all over the lake. With that my outboard packed up so I had to hold the fish over the side of the boat with one hand and row with the other which was a nightmare to say the least!!
I eventually made it back to the bank and that’s when I realised I’d caught the linear known as Kev’s Linear!! I was made up, at 39lb 6oz it was clear she’d had a good spawn out but never the less she was in immaculate condition. Pictures were done and she was returned none the worse for her ordeal.
This was an unreal session for me and one I’ll remember for some time.
Sean.
