Sean Leverett opened his Stoneacres account with this stunning mirror. Its been a hard slog so far but what a fish to get off the mark. Here’s Sean’s story:
Despite being on fish for most of my sessions on Stoneacres, getting a bite was always a different matter. The Stoney fish have clearly seen it all so as a result of this they are quite clued up. On several occasions I would go out and check my spots only to find that all that was sat there was my hookbait and that all the free offerings had been eaten.
This trip I decided to set up on the back of the s/w wind as it was due to turn in a day or so. This allowed me to get the rods out and bait up perfectly without the worry of spooking fish from the area.
This worked well as 36hrs later the wind spun and with it the carp came. That evening, one of my rods ripped off and after a short fight I soon had a cracking looking mirror ready for netting.
Finally I had caught and to say I was made up was an understatement. A couple of guys came round to assist in the pictures and at 31lb 6oz this mirror was a stunner and the wait had been worth it.
Rig wise I used a hinge stiff rig constructed using a boom of 18lb ESP Ghost Fluorocarbon to a size 9 High Performance Uni-Link Carp Swivel and then 25lb Bristle Filament to a size 4 Stiff Rigger. Bait was a Krill corkball pop-up over around half a kilo of free offerings.
