Sean Leverett had a nice result last week on Stoneacres, one things for sure about the fish in there, whatever the size they are all stunners! Here’s what Sean had to say:
With Stoneacres fishing so slowly over the last month or so and it only doing a handful of fish in this time the fishing has been a bit tough going.
The tench had continued to be very active and and i can only put this down to the carp being on the naturals and the tench getting more of a look in bait wise which results in lots more than usual getting caught.
This particular trip i had decided to concentrate on a certain swim that the fish had been regularly seen in, bait it heavily and sit it out for the 4 nights in the hope that a large bed of boilie would draw the carp in and get them feeding.
Although i did see the odd carp in the area, after a couple of late night looks it became quite evident that the bulk of the fish were elsewhere so with that after 2 nights i moved swims.
The swim choice was The Crow, a swim that had been quite kind to me and a large percentage of my captures had come from this swim.
I knew the areas quite well so soon had 3 snowman rigs out on areas and around a kilo of the Krill scattered behind each rig. Rig choice was a blowback rig constructed using the prototype E-S-P 25lb Tungsten hooklink material in the silt finish, a size 5 D-7 , a small shrink tube kicker and a small section (about 10mm) of the hooklink coating stripped just behind it. A couple of small blobs of E-S-P Tungsten putty ensured that the hooklink was pinned into the silty lake bed. I upped the hook bait size from a 16mm snowman to a 20mm one in an attempt to slow the tench up and so i had a fair amount of separation between the hookbait and the hook. I do like a long hair. Ejector Lead clips and the new prototype green leadcore fishing off the setup.
The next morning after the move, just after first light i watched a fish show over the right rod and then just minutes later it was away. The fish soon weeded me up so it had to be a trip out in the boat but soon enough I had one in the net.
Although not one of the bigger residents it was a fish known as the Little Leather that i’d caught which was one of the old originals and at 23lb 15oz i was more than happy.
