Lee Collings has been plugging away on a fairly unproductive Farriers Lake and taking the time to find a new spot produced the goods with this lovely 39lb 1oz common.
‘The lake had been fishing really slow with hardly any fish being caught, they seemed to be avoiding feeding on clear areas in the weed and known feeding spots even though they were showing in these areas.
So it was back to the drawing board and I had to find new spots. The lake is still very weedy and not showing any signs of dying back yet so after 1 hour with a marker rod and just a lead I found a new a new area, only quite small next to a thick weed bed.
The area of the lake I had been fishing is more of a passing point as the fish move to the different areas of the lake so it seems like a window of opportunity of about 3-4 hours maximum to catch then that seems to be it for the day but the area seems to be throwing up a few decent fish for myself so I thought I would stick it out.
The take just pulled up tight and the fish was solid in the weed but after walking backwards I managed to get it moving.
After what seemed like an eternity while playing what I knew was a good fish as it was just plodding around hugging the bottom and taking me in every weed bed it could, it rolled in the net after 4-5 minutes.
The fish was caught at 30 yards range using 12″ of tubing fished on a lead clip with a 4oz flat pear lead with about 6 inches of ESP 25lb Brown Striptease tied line aligner style with a 15mm Mainline Cell boilie tipped with a piece of ESP big buoyant plastic corn fished blow back style on a size 6 ESP Curve-Shanx barbless hook.
I fished over 30 broken boilies spombed out tightly into the hole in the weed.”
