Marcus Howarth has been in touch with news of his annual trip in search of Belgian warlocks. After a slow start it turned out to be a productive trip:
‘For me, Gaz and Elmo the wait was over, we were on our way to lands afar.
We arrived in the early hours of the morning and had a good walk around, it was good to be back.
This trip was hard going for me and after three nights I was yet to catch one. Which wasn’t for the lack of trying either I moved and fished different swims each night but just couldnt find them.
I found some fish showing so decided to move onto them and I was going to stay and do a couple nights in the area. Which worked for me as in the second night I finally got a take and after a spirited fight I landed a lovely dark common!! Buzzing.
With the rod recast it wasnt long until it ripped off again! This one weeded me up but with steady pressure she was slowly coming in but as I was playing this one in my other rod ripped off as well! I just had to let it run into weed which it did.
It didnt take long to get the second fish netted and as soon as it was safely in the net I started to do battle with the other and after a little of steady pressure the fish kicked and out the weed bed she came and from then on she just fought like made, she would just not give up. Eventualy I did win the battle and it turned out to be a lovely scaled mirror.
We took a few snaps and returned them to there home.
Buzzing like you wouldnt believe!!’
We hope to have a write up from Gaz Fareham too in the next couple of days, detailing how he got on – it involves some big old Belgian fish!
