Marcus Howarth had an incredible result last week with the capture of the Big Plated from St John’s on the Linear complex. Not bad considering it was caught on his first ever visit to the lake, which was a fairly impromptu one anyway!
The Wimborne based hauler had originally traveled north with intentions of fishing Stoneacres on the Linch Hill complex, but with that being fairly unproductive in the lead up to his trip he opted for a social on St John’s instead. Good angling!
Here’s Marcus’ account:
When I turned up at St. John’s it was clear to see the lake was very busy and after a little look about I found a few fish mooching around in a shallow corner of the lake which was free from other anglers.
I tied up a zig and flicked it out and I managed two carp quite quickly. The light was going so I sorted the rods out for the night, I tied up chod rigs as there was a fair bit of weed in front of me. With the rigs positioned and some bait scattered around them, it didn’t take long to get a bite and after a spirited battle I slipped the net under a very large carp.
I flicked my head torch on and I couldn’t believe it I’ve just landed the big plated and it was on my first ever visit to the venue!! We weighed and photographed him and for the record he went 45.8. What a stunning carp I was totally blown away.
Marcus’ set up incorporated ESP terminal gear including a new prototype hook. It was the first time he had used the hooks and he commented ‘once they’re in they’re never coming out’. Amen to that.
