Getting the baiting situation right can lead to big hits of fish at this time of year. Kev Hewitt is an expert in this field and his spodded particle approach has resulted in some prolific catches on waters all over the country. Here’s Kev’s take on getting them munching.
‘The last few weeks in my angling have been very productive and like a light switch, the way the carp have fed has changed. Early spring saw them feeding in a more patient manner and light scattering of boilies was the perfect way achieve a bite as they slowly moved from bait to bait inspecting each one before choosing to have chew.
The situation couldn’t be any more different now that the water is warm enough that a quick dip is no longer a shock to the system. Our finned friends are making the most of their environment and are on the move constantly looking for a bigger meal on bite times. Big beds of particles are starting to trigger a more aggressive feeding response and the inclusion of hemp and tigers into any mix is likely to be a welcome snack for Mr carp.
Now more than ever is the best time to get some spots established and well polished off which in my experience will create feeding hot spots for the rest of the summer. It’s just a simple case of getting a good bed of particles onto a spot where a carp wants to feed and they will do the rest of the work for you.
A nice and clean spot created by carp feeding is a winner in my eyes and can be the beginning of a very fruitful summer.
Don’t forget to mark these spots in you carpy diary and keep the bait going in as regular as possible’.
Tight lines, Kev.
