Kev Hewitt needs little introduction as being one of the most prolific carp catchers in the UK. His technical ability, bait application and watercraft skills have helped him catch big carp wherever he has angled.

Here we start a new series of ‘top tips’ from Kev, where he will share his wealth of carp fishing knowledge – whether it be on rigs, bait or watercraft, they will all be relevent to the time of year they are published on the E-S-P website.
Kev kicks off with location at this time of year, with the water temperature steadily increasing and daylight hours becoming longer, here’s where to find them:
‘Spring has sprung and every living creature including the carp have come out of winter hibernation. The water temperatures are gradually increasing day by and and it is this time of year that fish start looking for shallower water and venturing into areas of the lake that have been previously uninhabited for the past 4 or 5 months.
Keep an eye out for the shallow bays – when fish start getting in these areas for the first few times there is always a big hit on the cards. Areas that haven’t done fish all winter will start throwing up some of the better fish so never neglect the areas that have up until now been devoid of fish.
Careful observations will reveal their whereabouts so keep an eye out for those carpy signs. Get on them and catch a big one this month’.
