Spring is nearly here and over the next month or two there will without doubt be plenty of carp caught on zigs in the mid to upper layers.
Zigs will certainly figure in my approach this spring. My favourite hooks for Zig fishing are the tried and tested ESP Raptor T-6 hooks in size 8’s and 10’s. The hook itself is super strong and the hookholds you get are superb and I put this down to the hooks short shank and wide gape combination.
My number one choice is to use a barbed hook where rules allow but have had equal success with barbless. The elongated beaked point ensures that once the hook is set, they very rarely come out and hookpulls are minimal. Exactly what you want from a Zig hook.
