Kev is the Perfect Guest

Kev Hewitt took full advantage of a guest session on Milton Abbas by banking a fish called Steve’s linear at 31Lb 14oz.

The lake had been fishing very slow the previous few days with nothing coming out over the weekend to the syndicate lads. The session was a bit of a struggle, I hadn’t seen any signs of fish during the first 24 hours but during the afternoon I spotted a fish fizzing up in the shallows.

I quickly grabbed a rod, landing net, unhooking mat and bite alarm and ran as fast as I could up to the top end of the lake. The fish was still fizzing on a spot about 50 yards out so with minimum disturbance I cast a single hookbait right onto the spot first attempt.

My presentation consisted of a 15mm Cork ball Equinox pop up dipped in matching glug which was fished on my version on the hinged stiff rig that I had been having some fantastic results on this year. Ready made ESP Chod Rigs in size 6 attached to a semi stiff ESP Striptease TwoTone hook-length in 25Lb breaking strain were the successful components.

A couple of hours passed before the rod ripped off and after a slow plodding battle I was able to slip the net under the cracking linear. It just goes to show a couple of hours with a rig on the right spot is better than days in the wrong spot.
