Kent based Jack Barrett recentured ventured to Slovenia to fish the dramatic Lake Bled. His hard work was rewarded in the end with one of the lake’s jewels. Well done Jack!
‘This was my second trip out to Slovenia this year, I took my girlfriend with me for more of a pleasure holiday and boy was it a different ball game. On my first morning it was all quiet down the end I chose too fish after seeing the morning out with no joy or no carp showing themselves.
We took a lovely walk around the lake later that day and I managed to spot a couple of fish show themselves far up the other end of the lake in no mans land so that was me set for the morning. Just before first light straight back on the bike and straight back up the other end, rods at the ready I chucked a rod out towards where I had seen the fish show, I could not believe how deep it was I was waiting and waiting for my lead too hit the bottom probably around 70ft deep at a guess.
After watching an epic show of carp in front of me I was left bite less and bemused. The morning wore away and it was time for me too head back too the hotel for breakfast with the Mrs., later that day I went back too the same swim and had a good lead about trying too find a shallower area worth fishing.
I didn’t found anywhere out long where the fish were showing that took my fancy, I did however find some naughty underwater obstacles snagging me up multiple times on the retrieve, so I opted too fish just off the 20ft marginal slope around 15 yards out and gave them some bait ready for my last morning.
Yet again just before day break I embarked on my 2 mile ride around too the other side, two 9 footers at the ready all tooled up with super strong super sharp Cyrogen Grippers and ultra tough sandy leadcore much needed fishing these perilous gin clear waters. I flicked each rod out on the slope and awaited the carp too show themselves. As the morning wore away day was breaking over the mountains I thought my chance had gone when all of a sudden my delk gave out a bleep then another. I walked along the bank toward my rod to investigate and could hear my clutch smoking away no buzzer just line tearing from my spool! After 5-10 long heart wrenching minutess I managed too wrap the net around this blank saving 38lb brute of a Lake Bled carp!’
