Have Somer That!

David Meek sent us this excellent night shot of his first carp of 2013 from Somerley in Ringwoodshire. As winter starts to loosen its grip (well sort of) its always good to get that first carp of the year under ones’ belt and snaggy areas are often a magnet for carp at this time of year David found out.

I went for a night on Somerley. Saturday, got up at 5.15, drove to Ringwood. Sat with a coffee at Roach pit to see if I could hear any jump out. Didn’t hear anything so drove to the tackle shop to pick up my night ticket for Somerley.

I found a swim that I had fished before, a couple of fish had been out from there in the week. So I was happy to plot up. Tied on a couple of fresh chods, white Solar Squid and Octopus pop up on one and a Specialized S2 on the other. One was cast to the snags down to the left at 56 yards the other in front at the same distance. Both landed with firm ish drops. I was fishing both chods fixed 1ft up the leadcore.

I scattered some boilies around both rigs. In the darkness my left had rod pulled up tight, and out of the clip. Lifted into the fish and it didn’t really do much, until it got out in front when it woke up. Soon enough there was a mirror lying in the folds of my net. A mirror from there is a bonus, as there are a lot of commons. It weight 21.10 and is my first fish from 2013 and my first from that little campaign. Very happy.

Got something you want to share with us? Send us your catch report!

This year we would like to invite you to share with us your catch reports and photos of carp caught with the help of ESP tackle. We’ll aim to feature as many as possible on the Facebook page and ESP website news page.

All we need is a good quality photo (maximum size of 1mb), a brief catch report (what, where, and how) and we’ll do the rest. Send it to catchreports@esp-carpgear.com.
