Essex angler Kris Garrett has been in touch with news of his capture of a stunning old mirror from an undisclosed still water. Kris is becoming known as a highly proficient angler on the Essex big carp scene and we expect more news over the coming months. Well done Kris!
When arriving at the lake the heavens opened. The wet gear was put on and I spent the next few hours looking for signs of fish, but the carp just weren’t giving themselves away. I ended up plotting up in a swim that to be honest I didn’t really fancy but it did give me a great few of the water.
I woke early the next morning to motionless rods as I expected. A cuppa tea made, I reeled in the rods and went for a wander. I found a good few fish showing at the other end of the venue and within a few hours I was fully installed in my new swim. I baited the area with 3 kilo of DT Baits R8, leaving the rods out to give them the opportunity to get some free food.
That night I cast 3 simple pop up rigs at them incorporating ESP’s sink link hook link and the ever faithful size 7 stiff riggers. It wasn’t long before the liners started and around 2am I landed this stunning mirror. She went 37lb 8oz on the scales.
