Darryl Dunn has been in touch with a brief resume on his year so far on Bundys Pit where he has caught some cracking fish off the top and bottom using ESP gear. Top angling mate!
It’s been a good season for me so far this year fishing the deep waters of Bundy’s pit in Cambridgeshire. The season started unexpectedly early due to otter sightings in the local area and I surely wasn’t complaining at being given the chance to fish this magical water in the springtime.
Thankfully no otters were able to gain access to the venue before the otter fence was installed.
I’ve managed to bag my first brace of 30lb commons along with a few of the Bundy’s ‘A’ team. Many of which have been taken on my favourite size 5 Stiff Riggers that I have the utmost confidence in. These have been fished on a variation of the hinged stiff link, combining 25lb Bristle filament along with a boom of 25lb Two Tone. This rig is extremely effective and results in some fantastic hook holds.
The surface fishing can be pretty spectacular on the deep pit when the conditions are right, and over the last 2 seasons I have been lucky enough to have fish to over 42lb off the top. Fishing for fish of this size requires balanced tackle that you have total confidence in. I’ve been using a combination of ESP and Drennan components. At the sharp end more often than not you will find my all time favourite floater fishing hook, a size 8 Super Specialist Barbel. To me, these offer the perfect blend of shape, weight and strength.
We’re at that magical time of the year when the fish are at their best weights and look their finest in their winter coats.
So I have my fingers firmly crossed that a couple more of the deep water jewels will come my way before the year is out.
Wish me luck!!
