New approach for Dutch Ben scores a hat trick of huge commons!
Big carp specialist Ben Voltijn has been in touch with news of some stunning big commons from a very tricky water in Holland. Ben only targets challenging venues in his home country and has caught many stunning big fish using a focused, determined approach to his angling.
Earlier this year Ben felt that his usual stiff rig type presentation was possibly losing its effective and decided to make a few changes which have paid off in style.
Employing a new presentation of a supple / stiff combi comprising multistrand and 18lb ESP Soft Ghost and a size 4 ESP Curve Shanx it helped make all the difference. Ben explained that usually 10 fish is a good years fishing on this deep, tricky pit and that is when the angler is fishing well.
Last year Ben managed 12, but on a recent 18 hour session he caught 10 including the three biggest residents, commons of 51lb, 49lb and 43lb!
Ben felt the rig was the key, as he was fishing the same spots and with the same baiting situation as he had spent lots of time on last year. Just goes to show the difference a few subtle ‘tweaks’ can make.
