Surrey based Alex West sent us this lovely picture of a 42lb 14oz mirror caught from a tricky, highly pressured venue recently. A move of swim after some night-time observation paid off with a rarely caught whacker!
The Surbiton Angling based angler said of the capture:
‘On a recent 48 hour session on a southern stillwater I got to the lake after the weekend rush, and fished the first night in an open water swim. During the night I heard fish crashing to my left.
I had a walk round to where I heard the fish at first light and saw fish fizzing on one spot 25 yards out next to a floating weed bed. I moved onto the spot for the next night, cast a balanced mainline Cell with active 8 bottom bait with a 2 bait stringer to the spot. Over the the top I put a pouch full of tigers and 20 free offerings.
At 6.30am the next morning I received the bite I was waiting for. Initially the fish weeded itself, after jumping in and disposing of the weed she rolled into the net within a few minutes. The fish went 42lb 14oz. This fish had not been out for over 18 months.
