Sean Leverett took advantage of the exceptionally mild conditions in the lead up to Christmas with some brilliant results from Cemex Angling’s Longfield Road Lake. Here Sean takes up the story:
For the last month or so I have been concentrating on Cemex’s Longfield Road Lake and over the last five sessions from the end of November and through December I was fortunate enough to catch a few. I decided to keep things quiet as I had a thing going… Now its time to tell and this is what happened.
In the last week of November I started fishing a swim known as the Hump and I began baiting it with a mixture of the Sticky Baits Bloodworm Extract Pellet, Oily Hemp and Liquid Krill and fished a single 16mm Vor-tex bottom bait topped with a small grain of the ESP Buoyant Artificial corn and a small pva bag of hemp. Well on the first session I caught a fish known as the Little Ghost Common at a weight of 22lb 12oz so that was a nice start.
The following session, the start of December, I got back in the swim and by fishing the same tactics and bait I caught a fish known as the Pretty One at a weight of 35lb 4oz. It was at this point that I decided to keep it quiet so I did self takes.
On the next session a few days later I once again fished the Hump in the same way and caught a fish known as Digit at an all time high weight of 37lb 2oz. Things were going well and they were well on the pellet mix.
I was itching to get back and a few days later I caught a fish called 3 Scales at a weight of 37lb 10oz and once again no one found out! Incidentally, all my captures were at night and off the same rod.
My final session for December ended with me catching another mid 30 in the shape of a fish called Cats Eye and this was also at an all time high weight of 34lb 2oz.
I couldn’t really believe this as the Road Lake was a tough water at the best of times but I had managed 5 bites in 5 48 hour sessions and four of which were mid- upper 30’s. The ESP Syncro XT mono coupled with the super strong Raptor Curve Shank size 7 hooks really held up to the job as I was fishing towards some snags locked up and every take was landed.
It really was a December to remember….
