Up and coming carp specialist Marcus Howarth had a right touch last week with the capture of a carp called Horse from the fabled CWA Fisheries sponsored Roach Pit in Ringwoodshire. This fish is one of the most sought after in Ringwood, if not the world and in fact it is so desired, grown men have been known to burst into tears at the merest glimpse of it. Anyway here’s Wimborne rod Marcus with the lowdown:
To cut a long story short it was a bit of a nightmare trip. It all started when I was on my way to the lake and I hit a pothole didn’t I, which cost me two tyres and a new back wheel!! Anyway I managed to limp to the lake on two wheels and as I was getting me kit out the motor the weather decided it was going to rain didn’t it, so I got absolutely drenched setting up, I was not in best of moods.
Just before dark I got my rigs out and with a bit of bait out there as well I was a lot happier, plus I got a good quote on a couple of new tyres so everything was rosy.
Nothing happened during the night and I woke up a little before 7 o’clock. It was one of those lovely crisp frosty mornings so I thought I’ll enjoy it with a hot cup of tea. Not long after putting the kettle on my middle rod pulled up tight, picking the rod up I felt a heavy resistance and then the a carp’s back bobbed up like a submarine and that’s when my left hand rod signalled a bite so I opened the bail arm until I get this carp in, anyway it ended up being a right mare as the carp fought quite hard and got tangled up with my other lines and for a moment it was a bit of a stalemate but luckily with a bit of help from a mate she was in the net. As she was resting in the net I sorted out the other rod which had a tench on the end, what a mess but with it all sorted we weighed and photographed her and she went 46lb! Proper chuffed wasn’t I with a big winter carp – buzzing!
I was using 15lb ESP Syncro, ESP Leadcore helicopter style with the silt coloured beads and size 5 Stiff Rigger hook.
