Kris Garrett has been getting amongst the fish again recently, in some style with a big hit from the Essex water he has been concentrating his efforts on. Top angling Kris!
Arriving at the lake on a Friday afternoon I was expecting to see it quite full of anglers, to my surprise there were only 3 on. With the water being roughly 22/24 acres there was plenty of options. I sat in a swim which had been doing most of the captures that week with a friend who was set up there. We saw a good number of fish show over the coarse of a couple of hours, he was off that night but unfortunately someone had already claimed the swim. Not wanting to crowd the area with lines I decided against jumping in the swim next door and went for a wander to see what else I could see. I found a couple of fish milling around on a gravel hump about 45yards out, 400yards down the bank from where the main group of fish were. I knew if the fish were to move in the night that they would be coming towards me and I would be waiting.
My rigs were simple, size 5 stiff riggers tied knotless knot with 18lb ESP Sink Link braid. I simply fished 2 solid bags to the spot and spread a kilo of DT Bait’s Peach n Sour Cream in the area.
Over the course of 2 nights I had 19 takes landing 17 including 6 30’s and 10 20s, the two I lost were down to having double takes and not being able to hit the rods. After each take I topped up the swim with around 200 baits and kept it to a little and often approach which really paid off.
