Blind Eye at 27lb

Stu Lennox made the long trip to the Quarry fishery in Essex recently and his efforts were well rewarded with a brilliant session – well done Stu!

‘Arriving at my swim I found a spot at about 60yds which felt like a hard sandy bottom covered in stringy onion weed surrounded by heavy Canadian pondweed. The weather was due to change the following day and I felt I would have a lot of fish moving through my swim so wanted a big bed of quality bait to stop them so I spombed 8-9kg of CarpParticles Fresh Hemp and M&Ms mixed with a generous glug of CC Moore Cream Booster liquid onto this small channel .

The view from My rigs were my favourite pva bag presentation (www.youtube.com/watch?v=wv7_DhXBc0U) and my rigs were simple 3” of supple braid tied to a size 8 ESP Longshanx hook, with two pieces of silicone to fix the hair and shrink tube over the eye to aid with hooking. 15lb Synchro XT Loaded was essential due to the heavy weed growth.

Hookbaits were trimmed CC Moore Esterfruit Cream pop ups on two rods and a critically balanced tiger nut on the third.
On the first morning a hectic 90 minute period saw me landing 4 fish including a stunning common of just under 27lb. This particular fish is estimated to be almost 30yrs old, with its missing dorsal and being blind in one eye it really is ‘a proper old character’ or whatever the carpy phrase is this week!

A nice example of one of the Quarry stockies – the future looks bright!

Having topped up the bait with another full bucket the following morning was exactly the same and in a very short feeding spell I added three more fish including another original in the form of ‘The Dolphin’.

In total I landed 7 fish including 4 20s and the two originals which more than made up for the five hour round trip!
