The Italian Job!

27 kg - 59 lb

Arend with a stunning 59lb common

Hans Moolenaar and Arend Termorshuizen went to a hard venue in Italy before Christmas to fish for some beautiful Italian carp. It is a venue that is fished all around the year, so the carp are pressured and are difficult to catch. Not only to fish, but also to enjoy the natural surroundings of the lake.

We started to fish our rods spread over the swims at depths between 8-12 meters. The spot was special, a little bit urban, but not heavily fished for a few weeks, so that could be an advantage.

We started to bait 5 kg Bio Baits boilies, spread over a wide area, mostly single ones. This was to make the carp search for more in the area. After two days, the first bites came. We had  both put one rod more shallow than the others and these rods produced the first bites.

23 kg - 50,7 lb

Hans weighed in with a new PB of 50.7lb

First some smaller fish, later we peaked both with a 50 lb plus carp. Beautiful, bronze common carps, with clean mounths and no name. That’s what we came for! Hans had his PB again at 50,7 lb and Arend was honoured with an stunner at 59 lb.

Rigs

The successful rigs

The rigs we used, were tied using ESP materials, a semi stiff hinged rig of ESP Two-Tone and a ready tied Chod rig size 5 baited with a Tutti Twist pop up, perfectly balanced with some Tungsten putty. The flavour compared perfectly the Fruity Tuna boilies we baited. Around the rig we spread some crumb to attract the carp. The other rig was a supple rig of 20 lb Anchor braid tied to the new ESP Classic size 4 with a sliding hair and a Teardrop rig ring.
