Dave wades out to stalk a Cambridge cracker!

Dave Robinson sent us this unique shot of a lovely mirror from a Cambridge pit he has been targeting. Excellent angling Dave!

‘This awesome creature was caught after an hour of standing in the reeds watching my targets swim past my feet. There is only a handful of mirrors in this venue so when I saw this roll over the net cord I was delighted to say the least.

I waded what gear I needed out 40 yards from the bank onto a reedy point that I had been having huge bird problems with during the previous session. Fishing this spot from in the reeds meant that every time the swans or a dozen tuffties ghosted over the spot, I could snap a reed and make them jump only one rod length in front of me. It wasn’t only the birds who were surprised to see me but the carp were interested in the disturbance I was making wading over to the point. They were coming in to check out the muddy cloud I created, so I had inadvertently created a perfect feeding situation!

I used it to my advantage and I stood there in the reeds wiggling my toes constantly to keep it stirred until eventually one of them picked up the rig attached to the 4oz lead and got nailed on the size 4 Stiff Rigger!

I picked up the rod as the fish stripped the best part of 60yards off the spool.  The trusty old Tels’ and 18lb Syncro did the trick though and before too long this lovely dary 34lb+ mirror was looking up at me from the folds of the net’.
